Based on an “all hazards” approach, a comprehensive set of guidelines was developed to provide emergency management response and recovery should a critical incident occur at WMU.

The plan includes two main groups: (see organizational chart)

  1. The Chief Executive Officer (President) and the Critical Incident Policy Group (Vice Presidents)
  2. The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) comprised of the following seven teams: Academic Support, Assessment, Business Support, Human Services, Logistical Support, Public Information, and Public Safety.

Each team also has specific emergency action guidelines that include checklists of actions to consider, emergency contact info, and additional reference materials. As a living document, emergency action guidelines are continually reviewed and updated.

The WMU Hot Line 269-387-1001 and the WMU home page are WMU's official sources for WMU closing due to weather or campus emergencies.

Disaster Excercises, Kalamazoo County and American Red Cross resources.
