Bulk Mail Requirements and Categories
Regulations for each different type of bulk mail, and imprint requirements have been provided to help you prepare your mail for the best postage rates. Standards can be found online for the following:
Types of Bulk Mail
- Post Cards (200 pieces minimum)
There is no postcard
bulk rate. Departments can send postcards as non-profit or
full pay First Class Bulk. Postcards being sent as bulk mail
must adhere to the same requirements as letter size bulk—either
Non-Profit Standard or First Class bulk.
- Presort first class (500 pieces minimum)
- Presort standard (200 pieces minimum or 50 lbs)
All Bulk
Mail Pieces (Standard and Non-Profit):
- Require three (3) days processing period in mail center.
- Need an imprint on the envelope or material if the material is to
be sent out without an envelope. The imprint will be facing the
same direction as the return address and recipient’s address,
located in the upper right corner.
- Must be identical in weight and identical material.
- May not have personal notes.
- Material weight must be less than one pound. If
the material exceeds 1lb, it will be consider as bound printed matter.
- Must be sorted in zip code order, smallest zip code in front.

Our commitment for processing bulk mailings is three working
days after receipt of such mailings. If there is a problem
meeting this schedule, your department will be notified by
the WMU Mailing Services.
